John Andrastek is returning to Nokomis Montessori Magnet School as Assistant Principal for the 2016-17 school year, serving the North campus.
Background: Mr. Andrastek (known as Mr. A!) grew up in a small Wisconsin town, has been married for 26 years to his wonderful wife, and together they have five children. He lives in the Summit-University area, and all of his children are either current or former Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) students. He has lived in Saint Paul since 1988.
Education: Mr. A. received his B.A. at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. At the University of St. Thomas, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Teacher Education and a K-12 Education Administration degree.
Career: Mr. A. will be beginning his 12th year in SPPS! He spent four years at Harding Senior High School as an administrator and assistant principal. After that, he worked three years in the Center of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development, which is now the Office of Teaching and Learning. Before coming to Nokomis Montessori in 2015, he served three years as assistant principal at Ramsey Middle School. Prior to SPPS, Mr. A. taught middle school social studies and was a curiculum coordinator at Olson Middle School in Minneapolis Public Schools for nine years, and then served as a PAR Mentor for new teachers for one year, totalling ten years in Minneapolis Public Schools.
