Degrees and Certifications:
I grew up in Maplewood, and earned my undergraduate degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!). I earned my master's degree from Saint Mary's University in Winona, MN. Prior to coming to Capitol Hill in 2008, I taught 15 years at Cherokee Heights Elementary on the West Side. I come from a family of educators, many of which taught in St. Paul. My aunt was once a member of the Capitol Hill community when she was principal many years ago. My husband's name is Darren, and I have two adult step-children and a grandson. Heather lives close by with the little one, and Tyler lives at home working as a diesel mechanic. We also have two fur babies living at home; our kitties Elvis and Milo. I love spending time with our six year old grandson, motorcycling (passenger :), kayaking, traveling, reading, cats, coffee, and dark chocolate. I so enjoy knowing more and more of the Capitol Hill students and their amazing families after finishing my eighth year here. Last year I attended the eighth grade graduation of my first students at Capitol Hill...feeling very grateful to have been able to follow their achievements up to that moment!
I had a fantastic summer and am ready to begin the school year. I was incredibly fortunate to take part in some international travel over the summer. My nephew is involved in the Peace Corps. and was assigned to Madagascar! My sister and I traveled to visit him and have him give us a tour around the "island". : ) We had a fantastic time meeting the people, learning the culture, taking in the natural beauty, and attempting the language (Malagasy).
I look forward to meeting everyone in Sept. and having a spectacular year of learning together!
