I love teaching first grade at Capitol Hill!  I love the energy and enthusiasm of 6 and 7 year olds, as well as their eagerness to learn and try new things.  I try to create a classroom in which every child knows expectations and can be responsible, self directed, and independent learners.  I also try to create a community where classmates get to know, and understand, each other and develop caring relationships and show kindness in their work and play.  Students learn how to use their words when communicating with others, as well as strategies to self regulate with Yoga Calm.  I hope every first grader feels he/she is important and makes a difference in the world.

Prior to teaching first grade, I taught fifth grade at Capitol Hill and Linwood A+. I was also a Schoolwide Enrichment Model Specialist at Cherokee Heights.  I earned my Masters' Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saint Thomas, where I have also participated in the Gifted Certificate Program.   I most recently completed Yoga Calm I, II, III training.

In addition to teaching, I enjoy cooking, knitting, reading, traveling, walking, Pilates, time with friends, walking my dog, and riding bicycles, especially riding the tandem with my husband. I also enjoying observing and spending time in nature....bees, bugs, birds, dragonflies....you name it!

I love the energy and enthusiasm first graders bring to school and look forward to working with great students and families every year!
