I am so excited about returning to Highland Park Senior High School for a second year. The 2015-2016 school year marks my 26th "season" with the St. Paul Public Schools. In my 26 year career, I have served as a school social worker, lead school social worker, administrative intern, assistant principal in elementary and secondary, Principal on Special Assignment for Special Education and Principal of RiverEast and Care and Treatment Programs. I have always had a passion for working with children and young adults and had long time aspirations to become an educator. I come from a long line of career teachers; my mother was an elementary school teacher in the Milwaukee Public School System until her retirement. Her four sisters were also teachers. It is in the blood!!
I am a product of the Milwaukee Public School System and graduated from Custer High School. Upon high school graduation, I matriculated into Tennessee State University a HBCU ( Historically Black College and University) in Nashville, Tennessee. I worked in Nashville for several years following graduation but gradually made my way back to the midwest and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota.
I am married and have an adult daughter Shelby, who works and lives in DT Minneapolis. In my free time I love to watch movies, read and connect with friends. I also love to travel even though I still have many destinations on my "bucket list". My favorite book of all times is The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. I collect watches.
Fun fact about me: I attended Tennessee State University with Oprah Winfrey! She was a "mover and a shaker" even then at a tender, young age.
I am looking forward to continued collaboration with staff, students and their families this year.
