Helpful Homework Hints

  • • Used colored folders for each subject. This helps organization.

    • Plan out homework time. Figure out how longeach assignment will take then write a schedule for work and breaktimes.

    • Some children do well if they work on the easierassignments first. For other children, tackling the harderassignments while they are still fresh may work better.

    • Have a homework place – it should be comfortable,well-lit, quiet and with minimal distractions. Have suppliesavailable such as pencils, scissors, glue, etc.

    • Teach your child how to break big jobs intolittle pieces. A social studies project, for example may includea map, the cover page, research, a bibliography, first page,etc., Help your child think of each part and write a schedule ofwhen he will have them done.

    • Make sure your child has a homework calendar.

    • Don’t provide the answer. Be available toanswer questions. Work through a sample problem together, butdon’t do the work!

    • Make use of library homework help centers, homework helplines, etc.

    • Review graded assignments to see where your child needs assistance.

    • Try a study group.

    • Have a car homework container.

    • Have a set homework free day and have some fun.
